Irish Aid and Higher Education

A midterm review of the Programme will take place in 2010. It is hoped that the findings of the review will assess progress towards the programme objectives and draw on lessons learned in order to make recommendations which will assist in decision making towards a potential future funding phase.

Eligibility

Only available to Irish universities, but an interesting scheme with the aim to facilitate the establishment of collaborative partnerships within and between higher education institutions and research institutes in Ireland and in countries benefiting from Irish Aid support.

Amount Awarded

Programmatic Funding will normally be provided for a minimum of three years and a maximum of five years. The maximum award available to any consortium under the programmatic funding is €1,500,000. Lead institutions will be expected to allocate at least 30% of their own costs to the programme.

Networking grants are also available up to a maximum of €50,000 for one year, intended to support potential partners to develop relationships in view of submitting a proposal for programmatic funding. The aim of the grant is to improve the quality of future proposals.

Application Process

Applications for funding under this programme will be accepted from eligible higher education or research institutes. Each proposal for either a programmatic funding or a networking grant must be submitted by a lead institution. Applications from a lead institution already in receipt of funding under this programme should demonstrate how this application and the previously funded project both contribute to the strategic coherence of the lead institution in terms of development cooperation.
